Hosting a Dinner Party: The Easy Way

If you are like me, you love having company over for dinner! It is so much fun to plan it all out and enjoy some good food, conversation, company, and fun together with your friends and family. However, I do like to make things as simple as I can on myself but still keep things nice. Simple and nice, is that possible? Of course it is!

Little Guests
If you have children and/or have children attending the dinner party, then it is very important to give them a special job so that they feel like they are helping. depending on the child’s age there are a few things that they can help with. Setting the table, making place cards, making dinner table decorations, and even helping to put together party trays or actually cooking are all different ways that kids can help out. Find an age appropriate task and get them started!

Adult Guests
Whenever you invite someone over, they always ask what they can bring to help out. Take them up on that offer! However, make sure you specify what you need. If you don’t you may end up with lots of the same things and not enough of others. You can make the requests as simple as bringing a few bags of ice, or as complex as making a specific dish that you wanted to include in the menu.

Clean Up
As you are cooking, make sure to clean up behind yourself. If you just keep cooking the next item and never clean up the mess from the recipe before then you are going to have a mountain of dishes and not enough time to get them all cleaned up before the guests arrive. The last thing you want is a dirty kitchen during the party.

Make it In Advance
You have all these great plans for the food for your party, but you have no clue how you will make it all that day. Here is a great tip, make it in advance! Make as many of the foods as you can in advance. Many foods can be made ahead and frozen, then cooked at party time. Plus you can also make some things ahead and keep them refrigerated such as dips and sauces. Also, there are items such as breads that do not need to be refrigerated and are super easy to make ahead of time. Other things can be done in advance too, such as cleaning up the house. Do as many things as you can before the party day, because there are always last minute items that come up on the day of an event.

Messy Kids
Kids at the party are going to get messy. Here is a great tip! You don’t want to have to leave your duties as host if your child needs a change, so set out some clothes in advance so you can send someone else you trust to change the messy child and you can still take care of hosting the party.

Make a Plan
When it comes down to the big day you will surely have a list a mile long of things to get accomplished. Make a list and plan out your day ahead of time. Leave some wiggle room in your schedule for minor emergencies. And make sure you have someone there to help you out. If you are trying to do everything by yourself, then you will be burnt out and exhausted come party time. Whether it is your husband, best friend, mom, dad, or sibling, get someone to help you out with your final plan on the day of the party.

Even if every detail doesn’t go perfectly, your dinner party will surely be a success if you follow these simple tips. After the party is over, you will be able to look back and see how much fun it was to be together with everyone that you care about! Dinner parties definitely make any holiday, or any day much better!
